10 Escape Death On Third Mainland Bridge


At least 10 people narrowly escaped death yesterday in an accident on Third Mainland Bridge near Iyana Oworo bus stop. It was learnt that a commercial bus with registration number FST 668 XR, summersaulted and landed on a BMW car marked KRD 294 CN. Although there was no loss of life, 10 people were critically injured.

The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr. Michael Akindele, warned against over speeding. He said: “The agency received an alert via emergency number of an accident on Third Mainland Bridge inward Iyana Oworo today (yesterday).


This prompted immediate activation of the agency’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) to the scene of the incident. “Preliminary investigation carried out by the ERT at the scene of the incident revealed that a commercial bus (FST-668XR) somersaulted on top of speeds and landed on a BMW car (KRD-294CN).

“There was no loss of life recorded. However, 10 people were injured. “The injured victims were treated while some were rushed to the Trauma Centre by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS). “The agency’s ERT, LASAMBUS, Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigeria Police Force and Lagos State Fire Service were the responders present at the scene of the incident for traffic control, crowd control and recovery operation. The vehicles have been cleared off the road for free vehicular movement.”
