Fire Guts Dangote Noodles’ Factory


Fire, which gutted Dangote Noodles Manufacturing Factory at Ogolonto area of Ikorodu yesterday, destroyed property worth millions of naira.

At press time, nobody could ascertain the cause of the fire, as efforts were ongoing to estimate the destroyed items. For almost about one hour, there was confusion in the area as the fire spread quickly, while the staff ran helter-skelter looking for means to put out the fire.

The emergency responders also rushed to the place. The Lagos State Fire Service also deployed fire-fighters with water trucks from Ikorodu, Alausa and Ilupeju.

Also there were Emergency Response Team (ERT) of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other agencies.

The Director, Lagos Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, said efforts were ongoing to completely put out the fire. Fadipe, who said that the agency could not ascertain the cause of the inferno, disclosed that investigation was still ongoing.

He added that fire trucks were deployed to the scene from three fire stations. On his part, LASEMA General Manager, Adesina Tiamiyu, said the agency received a distress call about 2:10p.m. through the Control Room concerning the fire outbreak

He said the swift response of his men and officials of other agencies such as Nigeria Port Authority Fire Service, Dangote Fire Service Department, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Emergency Management Agency (NAMA), as well as the police helped to save lives and salvage property.
