Senate Suspends Nigerian Peace Corps Bill To Another Legislative Day


The Nigerian Senate steps down the Report of the Committee on Interior on the Nigerian Peace Corps (est. etc.) Bill, 2016. (SB. 173 & SB. 183) by Senator Bayero Nafada to another legislative day.

The #NigerianPeaceCorpsBill was considered today at the plenary.

According to the Senate, the headquarters of the Nigerian Peace Corps will be located in the Federal Capital Territory. When the Senate moved into the committee of whole for clause-by-clause consideration of the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill.

Senator James Manager  said " The Bill has 42 sections and the committee failed to make any comments, no observations & no corrections indicated" as he criticized certain provisions of the Bill.

In addition, Senators Taya Alasaoudura and Biodun Olujimi also criticized the duplicating role and stands of the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill.

Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume moves that the clause-by-clause consideration of the #PeaceCorpsBill be suspended to another day for further input because the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior, Senator Bayero U. Nafada (Gombe North) was absence at plenary.

The stepping down was seconded by the Minority Leader will ensure further legislative work and consultation on the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill before it is brought for the clause by clause consideration and eventual passage into law at a later date.
