Again, Fire Razes Dangote Noodles Factory
For the second time in about three weeks, fire yesterday gutted Dangote Noodles Manufacturing Factory at Ogolonto area of Ikorodu, destroying property and goods said to worth millions of naira. At press time, nobody could ascertain the cause of the fire, as efforts were ongoing to estimate the destroyed items in the inferno. Information gathered at scene of the incident showed that the fire started from the extended warehouse section of the factory.
There was confusion in the area as fire spread quickly, destroying items, while the staff ran helter-skelter looking for means to put out the fire, the emergency responders were also invited. The Lagos State Fire Service went there with three water trucks.
The firefighters were later joined by the state Emergency Response Unit and other agencies. The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, in a text message, said two trucks were initially sent to the scene of the fire but later added that another was later sent to the scene to completely put out the fire.
Fadipe, who said that the agency could not ascertain the cause of the inferno, said investigation was still ongoing. Also speaking, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) General Manager, Adesina Tiamiyu, said information gathered at the scene of the incident revealed that the fire started from the extended warehouse section of the factory. Tiamiyu added that the wrapping sheet section of factory was destroyed by the fire. He said: “No live was lost in the incident. Nobody also sustained injuries. The cause of fire is still unknown. The fire outbreak is currently under control, damping down processing on going.”
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) Fire Service, Dangote Fire Service Department, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as well as the police helped to save lives and salvage property.
