Cult Clashes Leave Four Dead In Ilorin
At least four persons are feared to have died in three clashes among people suspected to be cult members in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The incidents occurred between Monday and Tuesday nights, according to residents some of whom claimed to have sighted the corpses of the victims.
In the first case, a young man believed to be in his 20s was hacked to death about 9.00pm at a popular relaxation centre at Gaa-Akanbi area of Ilorin. The deceased incidentally was said by neighbours to have served as Best Man to his brother a week before his untimely death.
Some sympathisers were said to have rushed him to a nearby private hospital where he was, however, pronounced dead. An eyewitness claimed that the young man’s assailants inflicted serious injuries to his head to the extent of removing his eyes.
On Tuesday, in what appeared as retaliatory attacks, two young men were killed at Ipata Market and Kankatu areas of the metropolis. The two incidents were said to have occurred around 4pm and 9pm on Tuesday.
In the incident at Kankatu, an interior part of Ilorin, the suspected cultists were said to have hacked their victim, aged about 18 years, to death and later dumped his corpse beside the popular Amule Bridge in the vicinity. The deceased, according to residents hailed from Osoogun compound of the metropolis.
It was learnt that men of the state’s police command later came and evacuated the corpse and deposited it at the morgue.
