Police Arrested Undergraduate, Others In Possession Of Guns


The Lagos Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers, who were in possession of guns and charms. Abila Olorunda 25, an undergraduate at the University of Lagos, Kazeem Lukeman, 18 and Ogunaike Olusoji 19, were arrested at Akoka area of Lagos, while inside a tricycle.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said the three suspects were arrested after police received intelligence report about their activities. Police operatives were then detailed to trail and get them arrested. When they were arrested, police allegedly recovered two locally made pistols and charms from them. Owoseni said: “The Lagos Police Command is determined to flush out all criminal elements from the state; especially those that would prefer to indulge in any form of crime in the coming Christmas season.”

He further said: “Between October 6 and today, the police have arrested 26 armed robbery suspects, 18 kidnapping suspects and recovered two AK-47 rifles, 14 locally-made pistols, 193 different calibers of live ammunition, 17 exotic vehicles of different makes and 11 phones.”

Olorunda, who said he was studying Botany at the University of Lagos, Akoka, denied the weapons belonged to him. He insisted that he didn’t know that the tricycle he boarded was carrying pistols. He said: “I just boarded the tricycle as a normal passenger.Four passengers were already on board. I didn’t know that the tricycle was carrying pistols. One of the passengers sat by my side, and the other sat in the front. They sighted policemen, jumped down and ran away. Incidentally, policemen were on ‘Stop and Search’ duty.

They searched our tricycle and discovered the weapons. I don’t know anything about the guns.” The rider of the tricycle, who was also arrested, said he used to ply between Bariga and the University of Lagos routes. He said: “I was on my way from work, when two guys entered my tricycle.

I didn’t know what they entered with.” It was, however, said that the bag, which was found at the back of the tricycle, belonged to one of the fleeing passengers identified as Diamond. He told police that the youths they arrested were innocent, stressing that the guilty ones had escaped. The rider added: “These guys entered as passengers. They know nothing about the bag. The owner of the bag is Diamond. He dropped the bag when he sighted the police and escaped.” Another suspect, Olusoji also denied knowledge of the guns.

He claimed to be a normal passenger going to Abuleoja, Abade junction until police arrested them. Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni said: “We received a complaint in Ajah that a chef in a house made away with his master’s valuables.

Police employed the use of both intelligence and technology to chasefour of them who are four in number. They stole gold valued N5m. The chef was discovered to have been recruited from agency that specializes in hiring out criminals as cooks and house helps to unsuspecting public.”
