Three Students Hospitalised As Fire Guts YabaTech Hostel
An early morning fire has gutted a female hostel of the Yaba College of Technology, leaving some students injured and left properties destroyed.
New Telegraph learnt that the inferno, which started around 5:10am at the top floor of the storey building, affected the entire 25 rooms on the floor.
Eye witnesses said the incident occurred when the power supply from the Disco went off and as a power generator kick in, smoke was immediately noticed.
No fewer than three ladies, who were in shock, were immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yaba and General Hospital, Randle Avenue, Surulere.
According to NEMA Southwest Spokesperson, Ibarhim Farinloye: “Twenty rooms were damaged extensively while five rooms were partially affected at the top most floor of the hostel.”
The Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Mr Rasak Fadipe also confirmed the incident, saying three fire trucks were deployed to the scene.
Some of the emergency agencies which managed the incidence are: National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire Service, UNILAG and YabaTech Fire Services.
