Two Men Rape Pawpaw Hawker

Two men, Ezekiel Yusuf and Musa Abubakar, are now in police custody in Ogun State for allegedly raping a 23-year-old lady.

The victim (name withheld) was hawking sliced pawpaw on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the men allegedly lured and had forceful carnal knowledge of her.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest of Yusuf (29) and Abubakar (25) in a statement yesterday.

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said the suspects lured the victim into Yusuf’s apartment under the pretence that they wanted to buy pawpaw. He said: “It was while she was shouting that the people around came to her rescue and subsequently reported to the police.

The DPO in charge of Ojodu Abiodun, SP Bamidele Job, quickly dispatched detectives to the scene and two suspects were promptly arrested.”

The PPRO added that the Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed that the case be transferred to the Anti- Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution.
