26 Year-Old Man Commits Suicide In Niger State
A 26-year-old man, identified only as Okafor, has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at Madalla, Niger State.
A resident of the area, Abdullahi Shua’ibu, said the incident happened yesterday morning at Rock Avenue.
He said a farmer saw the body hanging on a rope tied to a tree.
He said the farmer rushed to alert some residents of Rock Avenue who went to see the corpse dangling on the tree.
City News gathered that the incident was reported to the police at Madalla division and that they came and removed the corpse and deposited it at the mortuary.
Shua’ibu said the deceased was said to have left a suicide note before he removed his shirt and hung himself, adding that a phone and a national identity card were found at the scene.
“From the content of the man’s suicide note, he told his brothers to take care of his children and that he was tired of life,” he said.
Our reporter learnt that the deceased, who operated a provision store at Madalla, became depressed due to economic hardship.
When contacted, the Madalla Divisional Police Officer (DPO), S. P Abdulkarim Ibrahim, said he had since been transferred out of the division.
While efforts to get the new DPO were not successful, a source at the division, however, confirmed the incident, saying the remains of the deceased had been deposited at Suleja General Hospital morgue, while investigation was ongoing.
