Amusan Breaks 100m Hurdles Record


Nigerian athlete, Tobiloba Amusan, at the weekend continued her impressive record in the women’s 100m hurdles, breaking the Texas Relays 100m hurdles Meet Record, as she finished in 12.72secs to climb to the top of women’s 2017 rankings.

The former junior international, who with her performances has already qualified for the World Athletics Championships in London later this year pending the release of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria’s entry standard a week ago, ran a new Personal Best of 12.63secs to win at the University of Texas El Paso Springtime meet. Before the final on Saturday, Amusan ran the fastest time in the preliminaries, winning her heat in 12.75secs (+3.6), going further to improve in the final where she set a new MR to eclipse the 12.83secs ran by Ashlee Williams in 2005. Amusan remained the most in-form Nigerian athlete this year, holding two fastest times in the world although her 12.63secs is yet to be ratified by the IAAF.

There were other Nigerians, who also posted impressive performance at the Texas Relays with Jennifer Madu and Stephanie Kalu finishing second and third with the time of 11.31secs and 11.35secs respectively in the women’s 100m invitational. The women’s 100m Hurdles invitational was won by the country’s Lindsay Lindley with a time of 13.12secs.
