FCT Fire Service Saves 48 Lives
The Acting Controller, FCT Fire Service, Mr Julius Opetunsi, has said the service saved 48 lives and property estimated at about N662 million in 128 fire incidents between January and February.
Opetunsi disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja at the weekend.
He said the figure was “on the high side’’ compared to the 406 outbreaks recorded in the whole of 2016.
“Between January and February this year, we recorded 128 fire calls and 13 rescue calls, and we were able to save 48 lives and property worth N662 million.
“The number of fire outbreaks within those two months alone is on the high side compared to that of last year because of the weather, which is very hot and windy.
“That is why we have intensified our public sensitisation activities on fire prevention and control across the territory.
“We have deployed our men and officers to plazas, hotels, filling stations and other business premises to educate residents on the dangers of this dry period,’’ Opetunsi said.
