Five Principals Demoted For Exam Malpractice

Five principals of public secondary schools in Ebonyi State had been demoted to classroom teachers for aiding and abating examination malpractice during the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) in the school. Also, 25 teachers and supervisors indicted in the malpractice had been placed on half salaries for three months.

Commissioner for Education, Prof. John Ekeh, made the revelation while speaking with newsmen in Abakaliki yesterday. According to him, 15 private schools indicted in the report will not be allowed to participate in SSCE for one year while they will equally pay a fine of N100, 000 into government coffers to serve as deterrent to others.

He disclosed that the sanction followed report of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) indicting 20 schools and some officials in examination malpractice in 2016.

The commissioner further explained that out of the 20 schools indicted for exam malpractice by WAEC national committee on examination malpractice, five were public schools while 15 were private schools. Ekeh added that 39 other schools indicted in the state had been cautioned while supervisors from the state ministry of education indicted will not be allowed to supervise again in WAEC examinations.

The commissioner while warning that anyone caught in examination malpractice will be sanctioned, called on students to face their studies. On his part, the Chairman, Secondary Education Board (SEB), Emmanuel Odo, said the implementation of the sanction will commence immediately. He said officials of the board indicted in the examination malpractice will soon be sanctioned also.
