Herdsmen Launch Fresh Attack In Benue, Kill Two Women

Armed men, believed to be Fulani herdsmen, yesterday launched a fresh attack on a community at Jato-Aka in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State and slaughtered two women who were working on their farms. This came one week after Fulani invaded three villages at Jato-Aka and killed over 15 people.

Sources from the area told New Telegraph that one of the victims, identified simply as Mbanengen, a mother of seven, was killed at Adam Settlement of Kendev-ya at Turan in Kwande Local Government Area, while the body of the other identified as Mwuese, was yet to be found.

It was learnt that children of the women who went with their mothers, got missing but a search party found them in the bush and brought them home. The Director General, Services and Administration, (DGSA) of Kwande Local Government, Mr. Teryila Iorhemen, who confirmed the attack to journalists, said the incident took place between Jato-Aka and Anwase villages when the women were working on their farms.

Iorhemen disclosed that following the attack, many people had deserted the area. He added that the assailants fled after the attack. Governor Samuel Ortom’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Col. Edwin Jando (rtd), also confirmed that he received a text message from the DGSA on the gruesome attack. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu, said he had not received any such information.
