Police Arrest Local Government Admin For Attempt On Melaye’s Life

Following the accusation by the senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, that an attempt was made on his life by suspected hired assassins, the police have arrested the Administrator of Ijumu Local Governmental Area of Kogi State, Taofiq Isa.

Melaye had accused Isa of sending the alleged assassins to murder him. The senator also accused the council boss of working on the instruction of the governor of the state, Yahaya Bello. Bello had earlier dismissed Melaye’s accusation of not deserving a response.

Isa was arrested by the Police Special Squad from the Force headquarters, Abuja.

According to the Punch, he was arrested at about 1:30pm on the premises of the Ministry of Education, Lokoja, where he had gone to visit the Commissioner for Education, Sunday Tolorunleke.

The administrator had earlier been invited by the police.

Sources close to the Kogi Sate Police Command said that the directive to arrest him was from the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, the Punch reports.

According to the source, the IG considered the allegation very serious and is determined to get to the bottom of the matter.
